Hojicha (roasted green tea) By Saraen
HOJICHA is a roasted version of green tea (green tea is made by steaming the leaves)using more mature leaves. Originated in Kyoto around 1920’s.
It has a reddish brown colour with a unique smoky aroma and flavour. Often enjoyed after a meal as it helps with the digestion. With a very low caffeine content (approx. 0.2 gram per 100g) it is suitable to be enjoyed in the evening and aids with an calming effect.
This particular Hojicha is from the producers from our hometown in Kagoshima.
