Neriage Side Plate by Sousougama

Taku makes these side plates in the same way he makes everything at Sousougama — by hand, slowly, with complete attention. The neriage technique involves folding and twisting different coloured clays together until they marble into patterns that could never be planned or repeated. Every plate that comes out of the kiln is its own thing. That's not a selling point — it's simply the nature of the work.

This plate is generous enough to hold an afternoon snack beside your coffee, a few squares of chocolate, something small and good. But honestly, it's just as likely to end up somewhere you can see it — on a shelf, on the bench — because it's that kind of object. The kind you keep finding yourself looking at.
